Why you should take a Well-cation

By May 22, 2018 Personal Health

Ever come back from a trip feeling like you need a vacation from your vacation?  A well-cation, especially one centered around a health retreat, can actually make you feel more rejuventated, motivated, and fit than before you left.  And because we believe a vacation should be exactly about that- tending to both your physical and emotional health and wellness- we have put together a fabulous health retreat to mark on your calendar this year if you are ready to give it a try.

A well-cation is like any other vacation, except the trip’s activities are revolved around health, fitness, and wellness.  In additional to your usual packing needs, you’ll be filling your suitcase with a yoga mat, exercise clothing, gym shoes, and your water bottle.

What makes a well-cation more exciting than a regular trip is the ability to explore a location without the rush of crowds at the tourist traps and allows you to discover the outdoor beauty.  You will slow down and learn to enjoy the food you eat, the fresh air, the warmth of the sun, and the amazing feeling of taking care of your complete self.

You won’t have the usual unhealthy temptations everywhere you look.  You are still able to enjoy your vacation without the hassle of finding healthy foods or even worrying about limited will power to avoid those pina coladas at the pool.  Meals are prepared in proper portions, healthy snacks available 24/7, water available at all locations, and all activities based on fitness, wellness, and health.

Here are a few tips for your next well-cation or health retreat:

  1. Pack light. Your days will be filled with active activities but quick-drying fabrics make it easier to wash and wear again.  If you do not have access to a washing machine you can simply hand wash and set to dry.
  2. Switch off both your technology and the inner echelons of your mind.  Use this opportunity to truly disconnect from technology and practice mindfulness.  Your sleep will improve, your stress levels will lower, and you will feel revitalized.
  3. Set goals for your trip.  Use the time while you are traveling to your destination to set goals for your well-cation or health retreat. Reflect on why you are attending and what you would like to get out of the trip.
